Day 17: 12/5/23 - A sunny morning and a stormy sendoff
We had a late flight this evening, but decided to start the morning with getting ready to go. Kaia packed while I went and did the last of our laundry (for only $2.79 for wash and dry of up to 14kg of laundry, it seemed too good an opportunity to leave with dirty laundry).
We returned to Australia Lane, so named in appreciation for the Australian military personnel that lived in the area and helped defend Malaysia during WWII, for breakfast. After attempting some outdoor stairs to a lookout point that were blocked by construction, we returned to the hotel to finalize packing and figure out how to spend the rest of our day without getting overly sweaty (no longer having access to a shower).
Brunch at Nook Cafe on Australia Lane
With the afternoon rain well on its way towards a downpour, we landed on reading in the lobby, a quick tour of the Sabah Art Gallery, and lunch back at Nur Asmah, the open air restaurant we had dined in to watch the night market upon our arrival.
We got to the airport as early as our budget airline check in gate would allow (Firefly airlines, 2 hours), as much "free" (already paid for in cc annual price) food and beer as we could, and slept through our flight to Penang.
Arriving at our hotel around midnight, we sought a quick snack and ended up with a convenience store meal of buns and chips, and canned coffee for the morning!

The Sabah Art Gallery Conservation Building was the first officially recognized Green building in the Sabah State; it was awarded Silver classification from the Green Building Index Assessment Panel, and includes solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system, and (aggressive) movement sensor lights.
