Day 19: 12/7/23 - Penang Hill and new friends
After a morning call home (well morning for us, evening for them), we did a local breakfast of char keoy teow (charcoal grilled noodles with veggies and prawns) and mee hokkien (curry with two kinds of noodles and seafood). We walked the neighborhood of the restaurant for a bit before a Grab to famous Penang hill. The Penang hill funicular took us the 2km, 800m of elevation up the hill in around 10 minutes, and we had a lovely chat with a lifetime traveler from Toronto area, Peter, who had many recommendations for KL that we are excited to check out!
The main attraction for us at the top of the hill was The Habitat, a park through the local rainforest. In addition to amazing views of birds, monkeys, squirrels, and butterflies, there was an incredible "treetop walk" with a 360 degree view of the rainforest, Georgetown and Jelutong spreading down the hill, the water, and even to mainland Malaysia!
Monkeys in The Habitat! Something this German guy did threatened one of the monkeys, who puffed out his chest before carrying on along the railing. We both avoided eye contact (with both the monkeys AND the German)

In line for the funicular back down, we made some more friends with a group traveling for a work teambuilding trip after I joined them for a tik-tok dance.
By the time we made it down the funicular and were in a Grab back to town, the evening rain had started and we sheltered at New Lane market for some mee curry before braving the rain for the walk home.
All smiles at New Lane market, even in the rain!
