Days 66,67: 1/23,24/24 - Sick Days and a Circus
1/23
Sick day no 1. Venturing out to grab takeout for breakfast and dinner, we alternated sleeping and staring into the middle distance while shows played in the background. We braved a short walk to the outdoors for dinner, hoping we’d feel better. We should’ve stayed in.

Unfortunately, another sick day. We were feeling a bit better in the evening, so we headed out to Phare circus. It had been recommended to us by a mother/daughter we met in Luang Prabang that were traveling from Sweden and it did not disappoint! Connected to a school for performers to bring arts to youth and preserve traditional Cambodian dances and acts, they have a lovely evening prepared starting with local food and warm-up performances before entering the tent for the main event. Clowning, nerve-inducing unicycle tricks, lots of two person holds, balancing, trapeze and silks: each new performer and section was engaging and exciting. It was all woven together with a story about a Cambodian village, specifically a (grown) child coming back to visit a village for a local celebration. Definitely worth checking out!
Unicycling and juggling. (also yes, you are only getting circus pictures from today)
Much twirl, such flexible.
Ok one photo of not the circus: a lovely meal and us thrilled to be out of the room!
Some of the combo scenes made me want to see it again: it was hard to watch all the stunts at once!
