Day 24: 12/12/23 - Exploring KL

Breakfast in the room while selecting spots from our list turned into brunch, and flirted with continuing into early lunch before we got downstairs and Grab-ed to the botanical gardens. While beautiful, we had managed to stall until the true heat of the day had begun, and were torn between pleasant surprise and mild consternation at being caught (yet again!) in some rain without a jacket. Fortunately (or unfortunately) it passed quickly and we were dry by the time we had walked through the gardens to the national museum.

With a similar layout to the Sabah state museum (4 wings, each with a distinct focus), the National Museum had a more chronological bent to it. Quite informative, with many interesting artifacts dating back to proto-humans (not sure if that's the actual technical term), it had the added bonus of lining up with the afternoon deluge we had almost been caught in yesterday.

Animal shaped currency used in Perak and Selangor in the 18th century. While we didn't see a wallet from the same period, we can only assume they had shoulder straps.

Banyan(?) tree in botanical garden! (We have no idea, arborists please hit us up.)

Skyline views from the botanical gardens!

As the rain lifted, we attempted to walk, well, anywhere other than back through the park and came to the conclusion that KL can be frustrating. Large highways, private alleys, and dead-end sidewalks hemmed us within a 3 block radius. Defeated in our search for an overland transit, we escaped via the MTR to Bukit Bintang, and enjoyed a sampling of stalls from the Hutong Lot 10 food court. A walk back to our hotel through Jalan Alor (famous food street, if not a little touristy), a dip in the pool, takeout from restaurant attached to building, and laundry in room rounded out our evening.
